The Barbados Primate Research center has imported green monkeys to the area, where they thrive among the magnificent mahogany trees. In this open air zoo you'll also see deer, tortoises, a wide variety of tropical birds, and numerous snakes and iguanas.

Folkestone Marine Park & Visitor Centre

Description: ST. JAMES PARISH. Combination recreational park and educational museum/aquarium, Folkestone has numerous things to recommend it. Along with tennis and basketball courts, the park has good snorkeling, and experienced divers can check out the Stavronikita shipwreck. Families will enjoy the museum and aquarium, and there are also picnic facilities and a playground.

Graeme Hall Swamp and Bird Sanctuary

Hwy 7, Across from Sandy Beach, Worthing, 246-435-9727

Description: CHRIST CHURCH PARISH. This preserve is one of the few remaining swamps on Barbados. The 78-acre plot is your best bet for viewing rare red and white mangrove trees. This is also the only remaining habitat for sedge ­ a water grass that grows more than a yard tall. A boardwalk runs along the edge of the swamp; from there you can view herons, ospreys, coots, egrets and terns. There is also a walkthrough aviary and an information center with displays.
